Nico Capalongo (’20) is a rising junior majoring in Near Eastern Studies and the General Manager of Student Agencies Properties. He joined SAI because he wants to go into real estate after graduation and Student Agencies provided a great opportunity to gain exposure.
As the General Manager, Nico serves as the landlord for the Student Agencies Properties portfolio. This entails making sure all the apartments and buildings are up to city code, marketing the apartments, ensuring that all maintenance requests are addressed, and working with the CFO, Forest Colerick (’20), to keep financials in order.
Nico became interested in real estate after spending two years working as a laborer for his dad’s construction company. He had first-hand experience watching something develop from an idea to its physical form and that really sparked his interest in real estate and development. He’s confident that he’ll be able to incorporate all that he has learned at Cornell and SAI into what he will be doing in the future.
Outside of Student Agencies, Nico is the Director of Fundraising for College Mentors for Kids, tasked with raising around $10,000 a year. Last year, he organized a 5k that raised over $1,000 alone.
After his term as General Manager ends, Nico plans to go abroad in the Near East and to continue pursuing real estate, particularly development and investing. Further down the line, he may even go back to school, post-retirement, and get his PhD in Near Eastern Studies. In the meantime, he is considering completing an undergraduate honors program thesis focusing on either real estate development in the Gulf or how financiers of terrorism move their money.
